The young owner intends to turn the old compound into a contemporary boutique “pensione”. The design takes inspiration from the “dialogue” with the old house, and results in a geometrically contained but spatially open box. The new building keeps a similar massing as the traditional houses, yet through its dark exterior wall creates a ‘contextual contrast’ that maintains a connection with the surrounding urban fabric while challenging the traditional architectural language.
